Michael Schubert (MUP '75) to speak as a Wetmore Lecturer

Michael Schubert will discuss "Rethinking Neighborhood Revitalization" at a Wetmore Lecture on Tuesday, March 15, at 12:30 in 225 Temple Buell Hall. Michael brings nearly 40 years of experience in community development and neighborhood revitalization and is one of several Wetmore lectures happening this spring. Read more.

Hot off the press: Prof. Faranak Miraftab's Global Heartland: Displaced Labor, Transnational Lives, and Local Placemaking

Prof. Miraftab's work focuses on the small west central Illinois community of Beardstown, where a local meat-processing plant recruited African Americans, Mexicans, and West Africans who re-create the town in unexpected ways. Prof. Miraftab teaches several courses on international planning, including UP 185/Cities in a Global Perspective and UP 423/Community Development in the Global South. Read more.

DURP presents lecture and screening of "My Brooklyn" with the documentary's Director

Documentary Director Kelly Anderson will be visiting DURP on February 17 and 18 with a variety of activities focused on her film, My Brooklyn. The movie documents Anderson's personal journey as a Brooklyn "gentrifier," to understand the forces reshaping her neighborhood along lines of race and class. My Brooklyn premiered at the Brooklyn Film Festival, where it won an Audience Award for Best Documentary. All events are open to the public, including film showings at the Champaign Public Library, Feb. 17 at 6:00 p.m.; Temple Buell Hall on Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m.; and a lecture and discussion on Feb. 18, 12:30-1:50 p.m., 225 Temple Buell Hall. The Lincoln Institute just published the “Policy Focus Report” version of the new book, “After Great Disasters: How Six Countries Managed Community Recovery,” by Laurie A. Johnson and Robert B. Olshansky. The full version is undergoing copy editing, and should be done in a few months. Read More>>
