Where did you go for undergrad and what did you major in?
I was able to take advantage of our department's 4+1 program, so I have been part of DURP since my freshman year of undergrad and will graduate this May with my Master's in Urban Planning. I began college as a Sociology major, but after taking my first planning course I knew I wanted to transfer into the program.
Why did you choose to attend DURP at UIUC?
DURP has allowed me to explore my wide variety of interests by offering courses in almost every subsection of planning. The faculty is excellent and the program attracts students from all over the country and world who enrich our classes with their lived experiences. Champaign-Urbana was also a major reason I decided to continue here for my master's - the community is small but vibrant and provides a great environment in which to learn about planning.
What are your career ambitions?
I hope to work for a municipality or firm where I can tackle planning issues that lie at the intersection of land use, transportation, and community/economic development. I have found that these areas overlap and complement each other, and I love that the planning field can be so interdisciplinary.
