GIS Day!
Registration for GIS Day is now live. Please join us on Wednesday, November 17 for the campus-wide annual showcase of GIS. This is an annual event where we will have a keynote speech, a social and networking event, and a student poster competition to explore the diversity of GIS applications and the capability of geospatial technologies in research and education at UIUC.

A few highlights for the student poster session:
When is the deadline? The deadline for registration and poster submission is Nov 14th by 11:59pm.
Who can participate in the student poster competition? Both undergraduate students and graduate students of U of I are welcome to turn in your work as a principal author.
What is the format of the poster? You need to upload your poster as a .pdf file by the deadline. The poster can be either a descriptive poster or a research-based poster. We can apply GIS and spatial data for various topics in planning to support decision making – for example, a descriptive poster can be straightforward to visualize future land use as a community’s guide for future infrastructure development; A more complicated research-based poster can use e.g. socioeconomic or environmental data to conduct an environmental impact assessment or a site selection analysis. Feel free to share how you use GIS data and methods to tackle a wide array of social, environmental, and economic challenges in planning.

How many awards do we have for the poster competition? We have two groups for the student’s poster competition: undergrad and graduate student groups. For each group, we have one first prize of $300, one second prize of $200, and one third prize of $100 (six prizes total)
Is this an online or in-person event? This year it is a hybrid event, which is held at Illini Union and online. The student poster session will be fully online. But the author is not required to be at the virtual poster session in order to be considered for prizes. Please check back later for a full list of the event agenda.
