Life After Coal: Envisioning Just Transitions Across Borders
This transnational panel brings together grassroots activists, community leaders, and scholars from Illinois, Ohio, and the Biobío region in Chile to reflect on the future of coal-dependent regions. The discussion will explore how cultural heritage, collective memory, and place-based knowledge can serve as tools for economic renewal, political mobilization, and just energy transitions.
The event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Memorias de la Mujer Lotina: Arpilleras, Women, and Coal in Chile and is part of a weeklong residency with the Women’s Collective from Lota. The panel will be held in both Spanish and English and will be followed by a reception.
