DSUP Seminar Series: Latino Urbanism: Sensory-Based Walking
James Rojas, PlaceIt
Want to hear from the urban planner who researched and coined “Latino Urbanism”?
During our Oct. 27 seminar, James Rojas, founder of the Latino Urban Forum and PLACE IT!, will be presenting about his research and experience raising awareness about how Latinos use and transform space.
During his graduate studies and experience as a planner, James realized that many planning scholars and practitioners were wrong about how people, particularly Latinos, interact with and influence the built environment.
The benefits of Latino neighborhoods, like walkability and social cohesion, had been overlooked and subsequently banned for not conforming to traditional standards. That’s why he promotes the importance of incorporating the Latinx experience into mobility design.
Join us if you are interested in learning how Latinos use and transform space why it is important for scholars to consider the Latinx experience.
All seminars will be on Zoom. Contact Amanda Merck (merck2@illinois.edu) for more information.
