CHICAGO TER/RAIN: reimagining the urban surface for rainwater
Mary Pat McGuire, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture, Director of The Water Lab
Tuesday, March 29, 1-1:50 PM, ONLINE
This talk will share design research on transforming urban imperviousness (focused on pavement) as a climate-adaption strategy, embracing wetness and the concept of ‘rain terrain’ in the reimagination of the City of Chicago and the Chicago-Calumet Region. The talk includes discussion of the urban surface as design medium, engagement with geological history, and subtractive intervention as the basis for a systemic and coordinated retrofit of sites and neighborhood districts.
